Perhaps this particular afternoon hike, in this particular remote stretch of forest, was not Maddy’s best idea ever. There is indeed someone home. A grizzled gentleman of indeterminate age who, from his attitude and displeasure at the appearance of a pretty, lost girl on his doorstep, seems to be the closest thing to The Grinch in human form Maddy has ever met.

Maddy has indeed found somewhere “safe” to spend the night. “Safe” that is, all except for her poor bottom! ESCALATING CONSEQUENCES

Ami is forgetful. It is her principal failing and extremely frustrating to her Aunt Alex, who takes care of her.
